Archives |
Archives are files that contain other files. Normally, you would need to extract the files in an archive before being able to use then in a text count program.
However AnyCount can do an "on the fly" extraction and counting of files from archives.
Therefore, if you would like to perform counts of files in an archive (e.g., which you have just received from the client), you do not need to extract them first. Add the archive to AnyCount as you usually add individual files and the program will automatically add the files inside the archive to the counting queue.
Anycount supports the following archive formats:
.ZIP - the most common archive format. Windows can create and extract these archives by default.
.RAR - one of the most popular archive formats, created by the WinRar application.
.JAR - short for Java ARchive, .jar files are most commonly used to aggregate Java class files and their associated metadata (text, images, .etc)
.XPI - short for Cross Platform Install, this archive format is commonly used as an install package for Mozilla software extensions.
.TAR - this is an archiving utility and algorithm used primarily on Unix and Unix-like systems, but available on Windows as well.
.ARJ - one of the oldest compression formats supported by DOS and Windows.
.LHA - a compression format popular in Japan
.7Z - an open-source format, primarily used by the 7-zip program.
